The Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards (OSCAs) are held each year to honour the sterling efforts of the game's hidden army of volunteers. These are cricket's unsung heroes, whose work away from the limelight, from making the tea to coaching youngsters, provides the English game with such a solid foundation.
Hundreds of worthy volunteers are put forward for the awards by their local clubs before being whittled down to a short list of three nominees for each of the seven awards, which are then handed out at an exclusive ceremony attended by 400 guests at Lord's. This year's OSCAs will take place at the home of cricket on October 15th.
Last year Pat Tremain from Benfleet Cricket Club in Essex won the NatWest Behind the Scenes OSCA for helping to raise £45,000 in grants for outdoor nets, an electronic scoreboard and sightscreens. "It was such a wonderful day with or without the awards," said Pat afterwards. "It is a memory I will treasure."
