NatWest CricketForce 2008 - the largest volunteer programme in British sport - was launched at Hertford Cricket Club in Hertfordshire on Friday 4 April. The initiative, now in its seventh year, has consistently grown since its inception in 2002 and this year broke records once again as participation levels reached new highs.
The total number of clubs that signed up for NatWest CricketForce was 1365 with approximately 80,000 volunteers descending on their local clubs with drills, paintbrushes and hammers in their hands to renovate clubhouses and grounds. NatWest CricketForce offers cricket fans the opportunity to group together with their friends and families to improve the facilities at their local clubs.
Throughout the weekend, MPs, businesses, local councils, cricket enthusiasts, England cricketers past and present, NatWest employees and, most importantly, a huge number of volunteers came together to make NatWest CricketForce the undeniable success it was. A value of £30-£35 million was raised for the clubs involved through cash or value in-kind contributions.
A club member from St.James Montefiore Cricket Club quoted "This weekend we have been able to achieve progress on several projects we've wanted to complete for the past 2-3 years. It has really helped focus the mind and shown us what can be done around such a purposeful event."
